Court Building Orange County Goshen, New York

The Orange County court system in Goshen NY had a court building that was, in its day, considered groundbreaking. The style of architecture by Paul Rudolph was unusual. By modern standards, though, the interior would be considered bleak. The challenge for the design team was to update the building into an inviting bright environment while maintaining the Paul Rudolph aesthetic. AVL Designs Inc. provided acoustic and noise consulting for the project which was led by Clark Patterson Lee Architects (now CPL Team.) Working with some very talented architects and interior designers, AVL Designs Inc. was able to incorporate excellence in acoustics into the spaces. The outcome is a dramatic visual departure, but the overall building plan still reflects the Rudolph touch. “Paul Marvin Rudolph, an American architect and chair of Yale University’s Department of Architecture for six years, was known for his use of concrete and highly complex floor plans. His most famous work is the Yale Art and Architecture Building, a spatially complex brutalist concrete structure.” (Wikipedia)
